To make sure your story and recipe are shown in their best light, here are a few tips for taking great pictures:
You don't need special equipment, a mobile phone works perfectly.
For Dish Photos:
- Use natural lighting when possible. Take photos near a window or outside.
- Make sure your background is simple and uncluttered to keep focus on the dish.
- Avoid harsh shadows – diffused light works best.
- Take both landscape and portrait photos.
- Make sure the entire dish is clearly visible and food is in focus.
- You can include some props like the utensils or table setting to give it a cozy feel – but keep it subtle. Feel free to create a nice scene and experiment with angles.
For Family Photos:
- A recent scan of an older photo or a clean phone picture works well.
- Include their name and how they are related to you (optional for captions).
- If you have a photo of an old hand written recipe we would love you to submit that also.
Overall don't worry if the photos are not perfect, as an option we could remake the recipe and take fresh photos as we go. Just keep in mind that this may add a bit of extra time before your recipe appears on the site.
