ABOUT Family Recipe Collective

This blog is a little corner of the internet where family, food, and memories come together.

Growing up, I was surrounded by the rich aromas, heartfelt stories, and cherished traditions of family recipes passed down through generations. Handwritten notes tucked into weathered cookbooks and home-cooked meals that brought everyone together made me realise that recipes are more than just instructions — they’re pieces of our history, woven into every dish. Below are some of the people whose recipes I’ve had the privilege to share.

Bunch of Polaroid Family photos

I created this blog as a way to preserve and celebrate those treasured dishes — not only from my own family, but from yours as well. It’s a space to honour the people, memories, and traditions behind each meal, and to build a shared legacy, one recipe at a time.

Whether you're here to rediscover a childhood favorite or to pass along a tradition of your own, I’m so glad you came. Together, we can keep these stories alive.

What You Can Expect to Find on This Blog

This blog is more than just a collection of recipes — it’s a place to connect, remember, and share the stories that make each dish special. As you explore, here’s what you’ll find:

ABOUT ME

Nell's photograph as a kid

Hi, I'm Narelle and I live in Sydney, Australia. The above photo is pretty much undeniable proof that my obsession with handbags and sunglasses kicked off way before it was age appropriate. I am the kind of person who starts planning lunch halfway through breakfast - not because I’m still hungry but because food is my happy place. I LOVE food, I love everything about it.....There’s nothing that excites me quite like discovering a new providore, the kind of place that feels less like a shop and more like an Aladdin’s cave, overflowing with beautiful, unexpected treasures. Finding a new restaurant is pure joy. It feels like a mini adventure, an edible treasure hunt where you never quite know what delicious thing you’re going to uncover next. Equally as delightful is discovering a new recipe or indeed rediscovering an old recipe that has been tucked in the back of a drawer. You know those family favourites that just feel like home. I started this blog to celebrate family recipes, the ones handed down through generations, made over and over and enjoyed countless times. These recipes are our family traditions, our love language.

So how did I get here? Where did this love of food begin? That one's easy to answer—my grandmother.
When I was seven, I spent Saturdays in her kitchen, baking by her side. It felt like magic to me, taking a few ordinary ingredients, mixing them together, popping the pan into the oven, and somehow, a golden, delicious cake would appear. I was hooked.
Soon, I was baking biscuits & cakes at home for my family, and from that moment on, I have never looked back.

I’ve collected a lifetime of treasured family recipes—each one passed down through generations. These aren’t just instructions for food; they’re little time capsules, filled with laughter from family gatherings, the aroma of childhood, and the quiet comfort of tradition.

Lately, I’ve come to realise that there’s no one close by who shares quite the same passion to carry them forward. This would be such a loss—for the recipes themselves, and for the stories, voices, and moments woven into every dish. Each one holds a memory, a lesson, a whisper of those who came before. Without someone to receive and cherish them, they risk fading into silence.

It makes me wonder how many others feel the same. Surely I’m not the only one holding on to their culinary traditions, wondering what to do with them. These recipes deserve more than to fade quietly—they deserve to be cooked, shared, remembered, and loved all over again.
